Typically held on the third Friday of each month at Abbitt Memorial Park or Courtland Field in downtown Appomattox from 5:30-9pm. Events include live performances from local bands, food & beverages (beer & wine coolers are available - proper ID required to obtain a beer bracelet and/or beer tickets), a 50/50 raffle, as well as a local non-profit organization selling drinks, food & snacks. Lawn chairs are always welcome, however, NO coolers or pets please. All children must be accompanied by an adult and must be supervised at all times. NOTE: Schedule is subject to change. Enjoy great music in a setting that overlooks the historic James River. In the Tradition hosts another guest band every month. Bring lawn chairs or blankets. It's $10 per person, and kids under 12 get in free.

The prehistoric Indians of Virginia were Holliday Lake State Park's very first visitors; in fact, this was their home. We'll hear tales about the way they lived and legends about the way they saw the world around them. Also, we'll examine and handle some actual Native American artifacts that have been found in our area.

Come out to the park and help us keep our stretch of river clean! We will float from Bent Creek to Dixon Landing and clean up trash from the river along the way in honor of the 40th Anniversary of the Virginia Scenic Rivers Program and the International Coastal Cleanup. The Appomattox County Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with L.E. Lichford/Budweiser, will host its fourth annual "Ember Fest" on Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 4:30p-8:30p in Courtland Field featuring live music entertainment from a definite crowd pleaser, THE WORX band. The event will feature a BBQ cook-off competition (judging to begin at 5:30p), BBQ concessions for a nominal charge from the BBQ cook-off competitors, beverages (beer & wine coolers are available - proper ID required to obtain a beer bracelet and/or beer tickets), a 50/50 raffle, and dancing. There will also be a kids' corner with inflatable bounces and face-painting. A local non-profit will be supervising the kids' corner and providing the face-painting as part of their fundraising effort. All donations towards this cause will gladly be accepted! Music, food & fun ... sounds like a party! Don't miss your chance to join us for this huge event. Admission: $5 per adult (ages 13 & over) and FREE for children (ages 12 & under). Held the second full weekend in October, this family-friendly festival commemorates the Norfolk & Western railroad's donation of the Appomattox depot to the Town of Appomattox in 1973. The two-day festival is held on Main Street and the surrounding downtown area. Festival highlights include a parade, arts & craft vendors, live bands, train exhibits, fireworks, food, and lots of activities for the entire family.

Join us for food, live music and good old-fashioned fun for the whole family. Wagon rides to the Tye River Overlook are $3 per person or $8 per family. And don't miss face painting, candle dipping, the corn husking bee, pumpkin painting, butter churning, herbal butter tasting, apple pressing, a corn shelling demonstration, apple bobbing and sack races. Learn how to make a corn husk doll. A small fee is charged for pumpkin painting and face painting. Don't miss the bonfire at 6:30. At 7 p.m., haunted wagon rides commence; they are $5 per person.

Enjoy an afternoon of Christmas celebration in Historic Downtown Appomattox. Activities will include live music, pictures with Santa, Carriage rides, food and shopping. The Appomattox Christmas parade will start at 4:00 p.m. downtown, followed by the tree lighting and community of candles ceremony at 4:30 p.m.
